vignette #48: pleasure is the point.
i scribbled this down on friday while thinking about how working in food media has affected my own weird food attitudes.
here’s the thing: i don’t want to drink green juice all day and make personal bargains before buying bagels. i’m sick of women laughing with salads (see also: the “sooo bad" phenomenon). food isn’t just fuel. food is awesome.
food is an art, and a skill, and a livelihood for some really smart and talented people. salad is great and stuff, but i want to eat ALL THE THINGS. baked avocados with spicy yogurt and puffed rice, flatbreads with cremini mushrooms and ricotta, pecan pie in a jar, brick oven pizza with capers and arugula, strawberry milk bubble tea, focaccia with goat cheese and cherry tomatoes, i want it all!!
life’s short, and i want mine to be a pleasure. an indulgent meal prepared by a talented chef in a dimly lit restaurant is the way i’m gonna do it. pleasure is the point, after all. just gotta keep reminding myself.
